Helena und ich haben auch einen Dia-Projektor aufgetrieben und der Vortrag über die Akademie Isotrop kann Montag 11. stattfinden, wenn es bei euch paßt. – Dienstag können wir einen Ausflug machen, ich habe bis 15.30 Zeit, danach muß ich zum Zahnarzt. Euer Frank

   does your work hold much personal relevance? Do you “just” create or is there some kind of intention in your work?

   I was drawn to the article by an rss with a photograph of the painting behind the pipe. I imagined it to be a studio photograph and was impressed at the way the artist had allowed the work to come forth from and exist in its environment.Having read this article I am no less impressed and am bowled over by the really large painting. I want to examine it up close.I don’t understand how I could be expected to divorce these works from the artist statement. Isn’t it about time the artist statement was included with any review of the work?

   Who gives a damn about the artist statement! A review is just that, a review of the work. The artist’s statement has no place in the review. It barely has a place at all. The author is dead man, dead I tell you…

   isn’t the statement part of the work? Are paintings supposed to stand alone? Don’t we need context? Maybe if we are viewing the real thing but with reproductions it seems to me like we need some context.

   When I wrote personal relevance, I wasn’t asking for an artist statement, I saw a chance to communicate with someone.
